>>>>>>>WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT STAR KIDS POST-11/1<<<<<<<<
ISSUES WITH STAR KIDS? LOSING SERVICES or PROVIDERS? Having issues getting what your child needs? MCO not responsive or helpful?
(1) Contact your state senator & representative ASAP--they will help you get the issue resolved (see comments/instructions below). In specific situations, we may ask you to move directly to the escalation process (#6); ****THIS IS CRITICAL!*****
(4) Tweet, FB and/or make a social media post about the issues you are experiencing obtaining care for your child. Use the hashtags: #STARKidstook (service/supply/etc), #STARKidsfailskids #protectTXfragilekids #fixthismess and #txlege:
(5) If you have experienced a denial in services, always be sure to begin the fair hearing/appeals process immediately so that services can continue, then follow the steps outlined above.
(6) TO ESCALATE and/or if you have not received a satisfactory resolution: send a single, brief email to the distribution list in the comments below. CONTACT LEGISLATORS: Contact your state senator and representative, Leadership, and those listed on the House and Senate Health & Human Services Committees about ANY issue you have with STAR Kids--from denials of supplies, delays, doctors who won’t contract, losing doctors & other providers, rude MCO employees, delayed communication, etc.
If your legislator is not responsive, PLEASE (1) let us know--there are many legislators who are supportive and want to help our families; (2) follow the process outlined below to send a single email to HHSC and legislators. CONTINUE reminding legislators that they work for YOU. ANYONE can call or email. Ask family, friends, co-workers, providers and agencies to join us in contacting legislators about STAR Kids. The more calls and emails, the more powerful our message and the more it will resonate with legislators! There is strength in numbers. If we want change at the legislative level, they MUST hear from you about the issues you are experiencing under STAR Kids trying to care for your child. Ultimately, OUR GOAL IS LEGISLATION IN THIS SESSION TO PROTECT OUR MEDICALLY FRAGILE CHILDREN.
